What is renewable energy?
Renewable energy is energy derived from natural and replenishing sources, such as:
- Solar energy
- Wind energy
- Hydroelectric energy
- Biomass
Unlike fossil fuels, these sources do not run out, and using them helps reduce CO2 emissions and environmental strain.
In Estonia, several energy companies offer solutions based on renewable energy. For instance, there are additional services available that allow for the utilization of electricity derived from renewable sources.
Our contribution
At Ecoprint, we have been using energy entirely from renewable sources in our manufacturing for over two years. At the beginning of last year, we also signed up for Alexela’s Rohesärts additional service, which supports electricity consumption based on renewable energy.
For us, using renewable energy is not just a checkbox on paper. It goes hand in hand with the conscious optimization of our energy use.
Through efficient energy management, we managed to reduce our annual energy consumption by 7 MWh. For comparison, an average Estonian family consumes approximately 2-5 MWh of electricity per year. This translates to a smaller environmental impact and smarter resource management throughout the entire production process.
Why does this matter?
When a packaging manufacturer uses renewable energy and consciously reduces energy consumption, the clients benefit as well. Packaging with a lower environmental impact helps companies meet their sustainability goals and satisfy the growing expectations of end consumers.
